Sab pabnaitin k pranam ? and hello friends,

On 19th may we celebrated Vat Savitri Puja which is a fasting tradition followed in many parts of India and particularly in mithila region of India and Nepal where my roots are. The fast is kept by ladies for long life of their husbands.

The festival starts with nahay-khai(eating healthy and heartful) two days before the fast. One day before the fast pabnaitins(the ladies who are on fast) eats only one time during the day. It is an occasion when ladies dress up beautifully and also wears Henna tattoos. In above photo you can see me applying henna on my mom’s hand.

You can see on my hand how the henna tattoo looks when it is all dried up.

In above picture you can see my mom all dressed up for the occasion. In this festival there is an importance of Vat(banyan) tree. It was under this tree Savitri(Ancient Indian queen)’s husband was lying dead and because of her penance she was able to ask her husband’s life from Yamraj(God of death).

Infact we all got ready for the Puja celebration.

We were accompanied by family friends who are also native of mithila and they also celebrate this festival. It is infact a tradition that ladies in a neighourhood join near a neighourhood banyan tree to do the puja.

Anyhow, I was super happy to play with their Kids, Abhinav and Animesh.

I even tried to frighten Animesh by wearing a bucket on my head. Animesh looks frightened, doesn’t he?

Then the beautiful ladies went outside the building for some photo shoots.

I got photo clicked aswell with my mom and dad.

This is where my mom and dad are clicked together.

This is me with my mom.

This one is with my dad.

And this one is with Sanju aunty.

This festival looked more like a festival of community and friendship. Happy Vat Savitri Puja and talk to you in my next blog. Keep spreading love.
